Zpět k tý technice: Přesný princip jsem na stránce výrobce na první pohled nezahlídl, ale podle popisů je hlavní rozdíl pro ně výška. Na úvodní stránce píšou (zvýrazňuju, co mi přijde zajímavé):
Tertill has a very simple method of identifying weeds.
Weeds are short, plants are tall. A plant tall enough to touch the front of Tertill’s shell activates a sensor that makes the robot turn away. A plant short enough to pass under Tertill’s shell, though, activates a different sensor that turns on the weed cutter.
A pak v supportu:
Tertill detects objects the same way most touch screens sense your finger. Both detect small changes in capacitance when a conductive object is near.
Sensor plates mounted just inside Tertill’s shell on the front left and front right detect tall plants and conductive boundaries. A smaller plate mounted on the bottom front of the robot is used to detect weeds short enough to slide under the robot. When Tertill detects an object with its side-mounted sensors it spins right or left to avoid the object. But if the bottom mounted sensor detects an object Tertill turns on its weed whacker. In this way the robot avoids tall crops but attacks short weeds.
Bylo by zajímavé vidět, co jsou to ty senzory: "smaller plate ... decet weeds short enough" ? Kapacita rostlin při dotyku?
Asi nejspíš koupit a rozebrat
A pak tam ještě píšou, že na ochranu rostlinek mají dva "vodivé límečky":
Tertill decides whether a plant is a crop or a weed based on height—short plants are weeds, tall plants are desired crops. The robot turns away from crops but chops down weeds.
The robot's simple-minded approach means that when a desired plant is small, perhaps because it was started from a seed, you must inform Tertill that it is not a weed. We do this by surrounding the plant with a conductive collar.

Možná jsem škarohlíd, ale celé to na mě působí, že to na svém webu popisujou tak, aby se to líbílo Běžnému Frantovi Uživateli, ale že ve skutečnosti reklamním způsobem nadhodnocujou jeho skutečné schopnosti a patřičně mlžej okolo, aby si to zamilovali
(sakrajaksetořeknekorektně) milovníci moderních městských technologií. Appka do iOSu i Androidu se jeví jako důležité, zato drobné nepříjemnosti s přípravou prostoru i provozem jsou možná míněny jako podružné, nadšenec si to rád udělá.
Nebo jinak - nápad zajímavý, marketing propracovaný, ale prakticky to ještě má k reálné použitelnosti dál, než by se mi líbilo.
